So in honor of Christopher Columbus, I went sailing today (actually, that's not really true. I just happened to get invited to go sailing today and it happened to be on Columbus Day)!!! I have been sailing one other time and it was when I was around 10 or 11. I was on Balboa Island in Newport, CA where my granny lived. She lived right on the harbor front. So, one day she rented a sail boat and took us sailing around the harbor for a few hours.
Since I have never lived around water before, boat and beach things still mystify me (yes, I know I live near this stuff now, but since I've never been here in the summer it's not really the same) since I fondly associate them only with family vacations from my childhood (namely visiting my granny, but also a couple of trips to Hilton Head Island, SC).
I even got to steer the sail boat! It took a little getting used to and I kept over compensating because I would start to go too much one way. But, I started to get the hang of it pretty well. And here is the proof:

The boat
Me at the steering wheel (or whatever it is called on a boat)
Out in the middle of nowhere! It was almost like being on LOST!
All in all a fabulous day! It was freezing for some of it and we had virtually no wind (super ironic), but I didn't have anything to compare it to. So, I had a blast!!
