Let the Fun Begin

Well, musical rehearsals began yesterday. Dance rehearsal went well. Vocal rehearsal . . . well, I'm pretty much not sure. I am filled with anxiety after tonight's rehearsal. The beginning is scary. There are all these thoughts in mind and yet you wonder if they will ever all come together how they are supposed to. So, I suppose this will be the story of my life for the next few weeks. And I have to remember that I am only on rehearsal number two out of around 35. Sigh . . . I just hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew!

Here are some pictures of the super cool model the set designer did. This is the first time I have ever had a set designer build me a model for my show (and if my chair is my designer next year, the last time). It is completely to scale (as they are supposed to be). These miniature models always fascinate me! This will give you an idea of what the set is going to look like:

This is a panoramic view of when the shop is closed.

This is when the shop is open and Audrey II (the man-eating plant) is still mini.

Overhead view of the shop when it is open.

Shop when it is open and Audrey II has grown big enough to eat whole people!

The dentist's office (the dentist is the bad guy in this show. He is an abusive boyfriend. So, when we pull this up we are going to try to have red lights and smoke while that scrim comes out from a trap in the stage, so it will look like hell (get it, dentist's office = hell)!

Overhead view of whole set. That space off on the left that looks like a building will house our five piece band - a guitarist, a bassist, two pianists and a percussionist. The store will openand close on a revolving stage only we are only using pieces of the revolving stage. The technical director described it as a pizza who's pieces slide around.

The fire escape that would technically lead to the next building.

This is exciting! I was in this show in high school, did I tell you that? My favorite parts were when the dentist was being mean :). Weird huh! Oh well. I was just an extra and in the chorus but I did get to play a bum that walked with one crutch, which earned me the name "gimpy mental illness bum" because of how I played the role. :) I like to think of that as my finest acting work to date, ha ha. I like your sets better than ours though, and I bet it is going to be a great show.
