SO, I had a wonderful visit with my brother's new family. Ethan is adorable, though baby-sitting a kid toward the end of getting to know him would probably be more helpful than baby-sitting him three hours after you met him. I had no idea how to make him stop crying on Friday!!!! But, by Sunday afternoon, I knew what was up!
I came home and two days later (in all day faculty meetings) got some horrific cold/flu (?) that involved horrible congestion and even more horrible coughing. Since it was the first few days of class, I had no choice by to go to work (despite prompting from my chair to stay home). I had to audition for the Freshmen Show (entitled This is a Test) because it opens on September 18th. So, really, there was nothing I could do but figure it out! I have a cast of 22, which is huge for us!! They are really great. I canceled all the rehearsals for Labor Day weekend and gave it to them off because they were so ahead of schedule!!
I really so far love my classes. Normally, the make-up of one class, even as soon as the first week makes me know, "oh - this one is going to be my least favorite class!" or "this class this semester is going to drag." But, no so far - I really like all of the groups of students as a whole. I'm sure part of that is also me. I am getting better and better at knowing what to expect, how to bring my own energy and how to make really fabulous lesson plans.
So, now that I am finally better, I went blackberry and peach picking with Ali today! Ali is an old friend from graduate school whose moved back here (her home town) for a while (her parents were the wonderful people who let me live with them for two weeks when I first moved here and didn't have an apartment (I couldn't move in until Sept. 1st and school started August 18th)). Anyway, we had a great time (though it was admittedly a little bit warm!). And, we went a little crazy with the camera, because why not??
And alas, that's it for today! But, I should have no more "good reasons" for not blogging a little more often now that school is back in session!
